PROGRAM:

Pride Denied: Homonationalism & the Future of Queer Politics | 2016 | 62 minutes
Set against the backdrop of “World Pride” in Toronto, Canada in 2014, Pride Denied explores the history of pride and trends toward coporatization and homonationalism at LGBT-themed festivals from the perspective activists, community members, artists, and scholars.

Pride Denied will be preceeded by:

Partners in Crime | 2017 | 4 minutes
Partners in Crime is a short, observational documentary that offers a glimpse into a community safety meeting in Toronto’s “gay village.” Local politicians, police, business owners, residents, non-profits, and concerned community members come together to discuss what safety looks like, and for whom.

Citizen (trailer) | 2017 | 5 minutes
Citizen is a feature length documentary project that explores some of the ways in which the regulation of citizenship and the enforcement of borders is used to deny many disparate groups of people access to basic human rights. From migrant labour organizing in Ontario to the fight to end immigrant detentions at the US/Mexico border, Citizen traces sites of struggle against state structures that routinely restrict the freedom of movement, the right to self-determination, and access to fundamental survival needs for many across Canada and the US.

White Skin, White Masks (trailer) | 2017 | 3 minutes
Reframing and cropping videos of police and white supremacist violence to re-focus on the perpetrators, White Skin, White Masks explores the psychical and cultural trauma of racism. The film visual spectacles of racial violence captured on video/cell phones from a number of angles, examing – but not re-producing – incessant spectacles of Black bodies in pain, while also exploring the construction of whiteness and white supremacy through scenes of racial violence.
